Support yourself and others this Christmas

For many people getting through Christmas can be a difficult time. We want you to know that we’re with you every step of the way.

Please check out the advice and information Mind have put together to help you deal with some of the challenges of the season, and to let you know where to get help and support for yourself and others around you.

We’re expecting more people than ever to reach out to MindLine Cumbria and The Lighthouse this Christmas - we're determined that no call goes unanswered and no one feels they have to cope alone.

“I rang just after the telephone line opened and was really scared the first time, as I don't like making phone calls but the lady on the other end of the phone couldn't have been nicer. She arranged for me to visit their office - although it's not like an office. I got the chance to talk to someone about my problems in a cosy environment with somebody who never judged me. This vital service is essential. For myself, this is the worst time of the year and I can see myself using the service in the lead up to Christmas.” - J

You can help us be there every time. If you raise £50, you can help us to provide 2 hours of support to someone at risk of suicide at The Lighthouse, including creating a “Safe Plan”.

Your R.E.D tshirt

Tshirts are available now! You can collect yours from:

  • Carlisle Charity Shop, 9am – 4.30pm Monday-Saturday.
  • Penrith Charity Shop, 9am – 4.30pm from Thursday (21st) morning
  • If it isn’t convenient to come into one of the shops, we can post yours to you. Please email Caroline with your name, address and preferred size.

Please note the tshirts are all unisex (sorry some say male on the labels!) Sizes available: XS, S, M, L, XL.

We’ve had a few people asking how much the tshirts are. They are either free or a donation of £7.50 (our cost price) – whatever you can afford. It’s so great to see the bright R.E.D tshirts out in force!

Save the date!

We’re planning to have a R.E.D Celebration and medal-giving event on the first week of February when we’ve all completed the challenge.

Please keep Saturday 3rd February from 11am – 3pm free in your diary in both Penrith and Carlisle.

These events will be open to the general public and include talks on both physical activity and mental wellbeing and we will show films including those from the Time to Change anti-stigma campaign. There will also be every fitness organisation, club and team that we can fit into one hall for you to find out how to continue your fitness journey into the rest of 2018!

Locations TBC – we will confirm as soon as we can!

Media Opportunities

If you could help us promote R.E.D January in Cumbria in local press we would love to hear from you. We have radio, newspaper and television interviews lined up but we need you to tell everyone how great R.E.D January is for your wellbeing – it’s no good just coming from us!

A written quote that we can use in Press Releases would be wonderful and the more the merrier. Please send Caroline an email with what R.E.D January means for you and why you’re taking part.

If anyone would like to go a step further and be interviewed by the Radio or for ITV Border, we would be eternally grateful.

Please email Caroline for more information.

Ready Set Go

You’ll find your sponsorship form and fundraising pack at the bottom of this page. If you would like any other materials, info on where to collect your tshirt, or for any other questions or help please get in touch with Caroline:
