R.E.D January - Over Halfway There!

Posted Tuesday, 16 January 2018, 5.49pm

A special message from Paul Farmer, Mind CEO

“We're so grateful that you are taking on the R.E.D January challenge. You are supporting Mind’s vital work and will help ensure that the one in four of us who experiences a mental health problem each year has somewhere to turn to for support and advice.

Although you may have moments when you have to dig deep to find the motivation to keep going, you’re doing brilliantly. We want you to know that every step you take for R.E.D January is helping us to take a step forward for everyone living with a mental health problem. We simply couldn’t do what we do without you.

Every penny you raise helps us be there for people who need it, when they need it the most. With your help we can make sure that everyone with a mental health problem gets the support and respect they deserve. So, well done for getting this far, thank you for everything you’re doing and all the very best of luck for the rest of the journey!”

We're half way there team - let's do this!

Congratulations REDers, we've made it to the half-way point!

At this milestone, perhaps this is a good time to take a step back and think about what you’re doing and why.

We have our own motivations for taking on this challenge, but ultimately, we all have the same goal of improved mental health through physical activity and supporting each other, all whilst raising vital funds for Mind.

You’re doing something truly special and together we are making a difference.

  • An incredible 106 people signed up for R.E.D January for Carlisle Eden Mind
  • There are now 9,664 members in the National Facebook community, all giving each other unlimited support every day
  • Carlisle and Eden REDers fundraising efforts have already helped to raise over £4,000
  • £10 helps us to train one teenager in mental health awareness and how to support their friends
  • £50 Helps us to provide 2 hours of support to someone at risk of suicide at The Lighthouse, including creating a “Safe Plan”

Exercising safely each day

After almost a couple of weeks of daily exercise, your body may be starting to feel a little tired and achy. To make sure you all stay injury free, R.E.D's running coach, Ed, has put together some tips on how to support your body.

Read full details of Ed's top tips here, where he covers those all important subjects;

Recovery - Flexibility - Nutrition - Strength Training

And check out this great article from Runner's World where they share A Runner’s Strength Workout That Can Be Done Anywhere

Yoga classes

There has been an overwhelming response to the start of Yoga for Mental Health Classes with Caroline at Carlisle Eden Mind, and while these are fully booked for the time being, there’s still space on the Yoga for Men classes at Currock Community Centre in Carlisle on Wednesday Evenings.
