Time to Change Social Contact Training

Monday 9 October 2017, 5.00pm - 7.00pm

We're running Social Contact training in advance of our World Mental Health Day 2017 event on 10th October.

Social Contact training is delivered as part of Time to Change Cumbria.

Time to Change is a growing movement of people changing how we all think and act about mental health problems.

That’s why we support people to make it easier to open up to mental health problems; to talk and to listen.

Effective social contact is a meaningful, equal and reciprocal conversation where someone with lived experience of mental health problems shares their experiences with another person in order to positively influence their understanding, attitudes and behaviours about mental health.

The aim of this training is to increase Champions’ skills, knowledge and confidence in starting conversations with the general public about mental health at an event or activity.

After completing this training you should be able to:

  • Explain what social contact is and use it in practice
  • Use aspects of your event or activity to start conversations with the public
  • Challenge stereotypes and stigma you may encounter at the event
  • Use different strategies to end conversations and to ask for help if necessary
  • Access relevant resources
  • Identify ways of keeping safe

To book a space on the training or for more information please email Caroline:

Light refreshments will be available.
